The Necessity of Two Genders

Everyone knows that men and women are different. You hear it all the time, universal statements about guys being one way and girls being another way. Such comments typically receive a chuckle and thus end the conversation, but there is so much more truth behind those observations than meets the eye.

“It is not good that the man should be alone,” God said in Genesis 2:18. Therefore Eve was created to be a “helper” or companion of Adam.

WOMAN was made from the rib of a man. Not from his head to top him nor his foot to be stepped on by him, but from his side to be equal to him, under his arm to be protected by him, and near his heart to be loved by him.

As one unknown author put it, “Our generation is becoming so busy trying to prove that women can do what men can do that women are losing their uniqueness. Women weren’t created to do everything a man can do. Women were created to do everything a man can’t do.

This is called complementarianism, the theological view that, although men and women are created equal in their being and personhood, they are designed to complement each other via different roles and responsibilities in marriage, family life, religious leadership, and so on.

This concept extends beyond a man and a woman as well. The members of one body were gifted differently so they can serve where others can’t (Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-26).

We as fallen humans are broken and incomplete so, in addition to how our Creator completes us, God made us different so we can fill in where others lack. Therefore, there is balance in the beauty of gender.
