How to Get Over Depression

We as humans are not just physical beings. We are a dichotomy of spirit and flesh, interwoven body and mind. This being so, our mentality is affected just as much by the state of our soul as it is by the case of our surroundings.

Therefore, there are a few things you can do in the physical world to improve how you feel inside.

#1 — Eat. . .well

Avoid greasy, fatty foods and try blending frozen fruit into a smoothie. While pizza can leave you feeling weighed down, consumption of a salad bowl may feel refreshing.

Stay away from microwave meals or items sold in metal cans. Go for the fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread, and organic chicken.

#2 — Go to sleep

The number one bit of tech advice that should be tried before going through with any drastic measures is to “turn it off and turn it back on,” and sometimes the same goes for humans.

If you’re bogged down in the same unrelenting circle of thoughts, go to sleep. You just need to go to sleep. Even taking a quick nap can be something of a fresh start, allowing you to move forward with a clear or, at least, clearer mindset.

Your situation seems somewhat like a dream after waking up, a helpful step toward the perspective that your entire life is not encompassed in right now. You are in a season that, as is with all things, will pass.

#3 — Get together with friends

Get out of yourself. Contact your people and schedule a time for you all to get together. Spending time with them—listening to their stories and laughing together—will remind you of the many things you have to be grateful for.

#4 — Take a shower

After a day or two, there comes a point when you have collected so much grime and produced so much oil that you just feel yucky, unable to relax in your own skin.

#5 — Rearrange your room

Clean. Reorganize. Go through your items and donate what you don’t use anymore. Changing the setting you spend the most time in will be like a breath of fresh air, something new.

Organizing your belongings will also help you sort out the thoughts in your mind. Tackle your clutter. There’s something about throwing out a large bag of useless papers that helps you sense the progress you are making in your personal growth.

#6 — Go outside

When the sun is shining through clouds scattered over a brilliant blue sky, step out of the four walls enclosing you and enjoy the pleasant breeze of an 80° day.

Drive with your windows down, no AC, no music. Listen to the birds, to the wind rustling leaf-laden branches, and be reminded that you are one part of a world so much bigger than yourself.
